This study is being carried out at BrabantZorg, one of the largest organizations in the nursing, care and home care sector. It has been commissioned by Actiz, the umbrella organization for businesses operating in this sector. At BrabantZorg, a new care organization model is being developed with the aim of achieving significant improvements in the quality of care, work and business practices. Experiments with changes on the workfloor are taking place at two locations. These involve looking into ways in which staff at the care institution can make an effective contribution to social innovation in the organization where they work.
Teaching staff and students from two programmes at HU University of Applied Sciences Utrecht are involved in this project: the Human Resource Management programme of the Faculty of Society and Law and the Nursing programme of the Faculty of Healthcare. There are plans to involve other students in the project, for example as part of their minors. This approach makes an important contribution to the further professionalization of teaching staff and students within the two programmes.
The knowledge acquired in the course of the research will be transferred in such a way that other care institutions will be able to make use of it in their own innovation process. The research has great contemporary relevance in light of the social debate about the quality and affordability of care in decades to come.
