Pieterbas Lalleman PhD RN (1975) defended his PhD thesis called Leadership as blended care: on daily work of nurse middle managers in hospitals  in November 2017. The theses describes the clinical leadership practices of nurse middle managers in hospitals in the Netherlands and the United States.

Since then Lalleman is working on several themes in this line of research. Key are the clinical nursing leadership practices at the frontline of care (hospitals, long-term care and mental health). Moreover, Lalleman focusses on challenges and issues regarding nursing governance structures and best practice models such as Magnet™, nursing councils and the positioning of the Chief Nursing Officer. With special interest we explore nurses clinical leadership development trajectories which focus on patient safety and quality of patient care.

Besides Lalleman his position at HU University of Applied Sciences in Utrecht he works as a graduate thesis supervisor at Clinical Health Sciences of Utrecht University in Utrecht and at the Erasmus School of Healthcare Management and Policy of the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. He coordinates the elective course Leadership in Healthcare at Clinical Health Sciences of Utrecht University and is course director of the international summerschool course Leadership in Healthcare which is offered in close collaboration with Elevate. Lalleman also works as a partime nurse for a home care organization called Buurtzorg.
