Willem Klijnstra is active in the Lectoraat Cooperative Entrepreneurship since 2014.He is primarily involved in working with bicultural entrepreneurs who participate in the Dutch Dream Foundation, in which the Hogeschool Utrecht is an active partner. Dutch Dream Foundation ‘s mission is to help entrepreneurs with a non-Dutch background to become a better entrepreneur. They do this by matching each entrepreneur with a coach, top managers from large companies. Willem is coordinating this process and decides each year which entrepreneur will be nominated to be the best entrepreneur of the year. Next to this, the project gives much insight in the problems faced by entrepreneurs, after their startup phase, like difficulties in delegating, limited insight in their business processes, limited financial knowledge, lack of focus and insufficient networks.

Before this Willem was active in the Lectoraat International Business and Innovation. He was project manager of the SIA-Raak project Internationalization of Small to Medium size Enterprises  (SME’s). In this program 50 SME’s  were given advice how to could realize their internationalization goals, in cooperation with students, lecturers and other partners.

Willem Klijnstra studied economics and business administration at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen and George Washington University in Washington D.C. After that he started a career in international business, first as sales /  product / marketing manager and later as general manager / director, with companies such as Philips, Hubbell and FCI. He lived and worked for 10 year in New and London.

Since 2007 Willem works for the Hogeschool Utrecht, where he was program manager for the program International Business and Management Studies for some years. At the moment Willem is, next to his Lectoraat participation, active with working with SME’s who give international company assignments, especially in large emerging markets, like China, Turkey, Russia and India. Together with students they give advice how to enter these markets. He lectures in the areas of international business, strategy and innovation and business ethics.

Willem would like to see that SME’s work together more intensely with the Hogeschool Utrecht in the area of international business. There is much expertize available and students can used to execute these projects. At the same time, these students will be fully prepared in a career in international business.
