She studied Mathematics and Philosophy in the Netherlands and obtained her degree in Mathematics in Pisa (Italy) in 1986 with a thesis on Computer Science. She worked in Italy and Belgium as a software engineer; in the Netherlands she was a database engineer and consultant. From 1995 to 2006, she taught Computer Science at the Hogeschool Utrecht (the Netherlands), where she co-founded the Multimedia curriculum of the degree course Digital Communication. She switched to the Open Universiteit (the Nederlands) in 2006, where she alternated her research on different cultures in computer science with the development of web-based courses, face to face lectures and online classes. Today, she lectures Computer Science at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, degree course Communication and Multimedia Design.
