Dr. Ivo Opstelten J. (1968) is professor New Energy in the City. Since may 2014 he’s director practical research at the Centre of Expertise Smart Sustainable Cities. In this Centre HU works together with companies and knowledge institutions on innovative products and services that contribute to the realization of the smart, sustainable city.
He is also the Programme Director at Platform 31 and he has joint responsibility for the implementation of the Energy Leap in the Built Environment innovation programme, which was commissioned by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. Energy Leap is one of the driving forces behind the supply of, and demand for, buildings with ambitious energy targets.
The programme selects and supervises ambitious construction and renovation projects. It also joins forces with market leaders to achieve the widespread implementation of energy ambitions. Since the year 2000, Ivo Opstelten has also addressed practical issues relating to energy in the built environment. He has also put the theory into practice in his own 1930s-era home, which he renovated in accordance with his own proprietary methodology known as PIAF, making it nearly 100% energy-neutral.
He tells about this project in an interview with Wilbert Leistra, which can be viewed here: www.renda.nl/renoveren_zonder_spijt.
