The professionalization research line was initiated in 2016 as an experimental partnership between the Innovation of Social Work research group and the Institute for Social Work, from the joint wish to contribute to the further strengthening of social work within a variety of collaborations between practical research, vocational education and professional practice. The two main researchers for this research line are Ed de Jonge and Raymond Kloppenburg. Below is a concise overview of the most important activities and results achieved by this research line.

  • Active factors of learning networks in the field of social studies. In the field of social studies, experience is gained within various areas through learning networks. Characteristic for this form of learning is the cross-border cooperation of representatives from three domains: professional practice, education and research. The aim of the learning networks is to promote professionalism, innovation and knowledge development. Up to now, however, little research has been published showing whether these goals are actually achieved, nor what the active factors might be the for this to be achieved. In partnership with several KSI research groups, evaluations research is being conducted, based on the Theory of Change approach. Raymond Kloppenburg is the project leader and Ed de Jonge is the project assistant.

  • Global cooperation. Raymond Kloppenburg has been a board member of the International Association of Schools of Social Work (IASSW) on behalf of the Netherlands since 2017.
  • European cooperation. Raymond Kloppenburg has been a board member of the European Association of Schools of Social Work (EASSW) on behalf of the Netherlands since 2014.

  • Bachelor’s in Social Work. Raymond Kloppenburg and Ed de Jonge contributed to the reshaping of the programme, including being members of the programme team. Raymond Kloppenburg is a member of the curriculum committee.
  • Master’s in Community Development. Ed de Jonge was secretary of the application for the macro-efficiency test, for the assessment of the new programme, and also developed the professionalisation module. Raymond Kloppenburg was also involved in the development of the Master’s programme.
  • Bachelor’s in Innovation in Urban Society. Ed de Jonge, as co-author of the application for the assessment of the new programme, was involved, among other things, in the design of this new training for professionals, who work in a trans-disciplinary manner on system transformations at the urban level.
