The incorrect use of medication plays a role in 5.6% (41,000) of all acute hospital admissions. On average, one patient per GP per month is hospitalized as a result of complications with medication. Almost half of these cases are preventable. This research group developed the Red Flag Instrument in order to tackle this issue. The instrument allows homecare workers to recognize medication related problems.
This PhD program focuses on the unraveling of the active components of the Red Flag Instrument. Nienke will investigate how healthcare professionals (homecare workers, general practitioners and pharmacists) can contribute to the early recognition of medication related problems, which competences are required and how early detection can be integrated in current education programs for healthcare professionals.
